The music from the 1940s isn t back, because it never went away.
That's the argument made by Bud Forrest, creator, producer and musical director of In the Mood. Forrest's show in the 13th and half a dozen musicians singers and dancers recreating Big Band sounds of the 1940s who came to the Center for the performing arts Mayo tonight (November 18).
Forrest made the point that, even in the era of post-rock n roll, Big-Band era still had a champion. Singers as varied as the Harry Connick Jr., Willie Nelson, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt and Rod Stewart have all recorded songs from the 1940s or early.
What leads to people like that to reach back into history? It's music. It's the eternal, and it's contagious, said Forrest.
